Case Studies
Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority
Successfully defended LACMTA in inverse condemnation actions related to the Blue Line light rail project. The defense prevailed through early motion practice, including summary judgment and directed verdict after plaintiffs’ case-in-chief—resulting in complete dismissal of claims.
City of Los Angeles – Health & Safety Receivership
Represented the City in a complex case involving a 40-unit abandoned residential building. After the City appointed a Health & Safety Receiver, the project accrued over $300,000 in deficits. A tentative court ruling sought to hold the City liable for the entire amount. Mr. Pearman led a thorough legal and accounting review, reversing the tentative ruling in full, saving the City from any liability. The property was ultimately restored to safe and habitable condition.
Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD)
Counsel to LAUSD in a writ of mandate action against multiple counties and redevelopment agencies. The issue centered on underpaid statutory pass-through payments due to ERAF exclusions, with long-term losses estimated in the billions. Through negotiation and legal filings, Mr. Pearman helped secure a resolution that significantly increased future funding for the school district.
